Feathers GIF
Background
The background design has two parts: the feather pile on the ground and the misty dark background. The dark background was first made of just a blank dark blue. Afterward, I drew four light gray lines around the background which I smudged. I did this twice to make the background change every few frames. The feather pile was made using the feather I drew, darkening it, and piling it up at the bottom of the canvas. The purpose of this pile was to explain where all the feathers in the repeated GIF are piling up.
Feather Design
This feather was drawn as a part of a falling feathers GIF. I colored this feather to be a very bright yellow to contrast with a dark background design that I had thought up beforehand. I tested whether the addition of a black outline would be better or worse with this feather and decided that the outline does add to it, making it the yellow be more striking.
Final Design
The main animation of this GIF was four of the feathers falling over and over again. I started with all of the feathers at the center of the screen and went frame by frame making them fall. To ease the effect better between frames I tweened each of the feathers. To make the GIF repeat, as soon as the feather went past the bottom of the screen I put up another feather falling from the top. I believe the effect of the falling, animated feathers on the contrast of the dark background and feather pile worked to create a nice visual effect.
